Cheese & Crackers Workshop
Join us in our kitchen to make feta, chevre, and ricotta cheeses. We’ll give you the information on where to buy the supplies to continue to make fresh cheeses at home!
And what is a cheese without a cracker? We’ll also be making our own custom crackers to enjoy our cheeses with. Economical and delicious!
Natural Health Care Products
Don’t want to use unknown chemicals in your basic personal care routine? Find “natural” commercial products too expensive? Learn how to make your own natural Deodorant, Lip Balm, Moisturizers, and Facials. Take home samples and recipes.
Family Farm Experience Days
Here is an opportunity for parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles to spend a day with the children in your family learning some new skills and sharing stories. Starting at 9:30am we will do chores (feeding the animals, collecting eggs, and other activities seasonally). Afterwards, bring a picnic or visit our store!
Bread-Making from Scratch
Who needs a bread machine? Learn how to make Louise’s famous bread, cinnamon buns, pretzels and bagels. Samples to take home and impress your family! Recipes to carry on making bread products on your own.
Three-Day Small-scale Dairy Goat School
Learn everything you need to know to have your own dairy goats for your family’s dairy needs. Three-days of hand-milking goats will get you ready for action. Practical skills like trimming hooves, administering needles and basic first aid will all be taught with hands-on exercises. We’ll go over planning for shelter and fencing with your existing spaces in mind so that participants can leave with a set-up plan. We’ll spend the afternoons in the kitchen making cheeses: chevre, ricotta, feta, paneer, yogurt and making cream with a cream-separator. By the end of session you will feel and be ready plan for your own dairy goats and become that much more food-secure for your family.
Goat Milk Soap-Making
Learn how to make goat milk soap from scratch. You will have the option to purchase the batch of soap that you make during the workshop. Each batch makes approximately 24 bars of 110gr each. Ingredients and molds for home soap-making can be purchased so that you can make your own soap for yourself at home.
NOTE: Arrangements must be made to pick up the batch of soap the following day.
Tractors for Women!
This is a basic introduction for women to learn about tractors in a safe environment. We will cover the basic parts, maintenance, trouble shooting, how to read a manual and how to hitch up an implement. Each participant will have a chance to drive Louise’s big red tractor. Bring a pot-luck snack and stick around for some social time after the workshop to “talk shop” with the ladies!
Thinking about having a clutch of hens in your backyard so that you can have delicious and nutritious fresh eggs (not to mention food security for your family!) Join us for an morning of discussions and demonstrations. You’ll leave feeling ready to do it!
Summer Youth Horse Camp
Looking for an opportunity to learn all about horses in a friendly, safe environment? During this week long camp, youth between the ages of 8 and 15 will learn the basics of horseback riding, safety and horse care. They will also have a chance to visit and learn about our many other friendly animals, including goats, sheep, cows, alpacas and chickens. Each day will include a theory lesson, a riding lesson and fun farm activities. Students must bring their own lunch. We will be accepting a maximum of 8 students for each session.
