Garden and Community Facilitator
The position of Garden and Community Facilitator will run from May 12th to August 22nd, 35 hours a week. The hours will be Tuesday to Saturday, 9am – 4pm, with some flexibility to adjust start and finish based on weather and farm events. Hourly wages commensurate with experience.
The Garden and Community Facilitator will work with our main Aurora Farm team to help plan, plant, weed, water, and harvest our gardens around the property. This position will also work with our other staff to direct regular activities with our Aurora Farm Camp youth participants, host garden tours, and welcome visitors to the farm. The first month of employment will involve training with other farm staff by hosting school and daycare groups visits to the farm, as well as familiarizing with the different tasks required daily in our barn and gardens.
Garden and Community Facilitator Job Responsibilities:
In collaboration with the Aurora Farm Team:
- All aspects of tending the gardens including: planting, weeding, watering and mulching
- Direct harvesting, packaging, and delivery of herbs and flowers to our purchasers
- Direct regular garden and craft activities with youth camp groups
- Collaborative Tour guiding
Garden and Summer Camp Facilitator Skills / Qualifications:
- Must be familiar with the basic concepts of organic gardening, permaculture, Indigenous agriculture, water conservation, composting
- Leadership skills for giving tours and working with youth
- Alertness and presence on the job – not a job for daydreamers
- Communication skills especially in shared task situations
- Patience with plants and people
- Problem-solving skills
- Physical stamina and self-awareness in terms of the effects of heat and sun
- Caring personality for best workplace camaraderie
- Organization skills especially in maintaining shared tools and equipment
- Enjoys being in the company of children
- Enjoys farm life and farm animals
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of 3 years of combined education and/or experience in gardening
- Experience with public speaking or group leadership
- Experience working with youth
- Craft skills
- First Aid certification

Camp Leader
Aurora Farm is an earth-friendly, animal-loving, solar-powered prairie farm located in St. Norbert, Manitoba. Our popular Farm Camp day program has been running for over 10 years. Children attend during the day for one week and spend time learning the basics of animal care with our friendly farm animals, horse riding basics with our coach, garden planting and harvesting, and plenty of crafts and games.
This position will run for 8 weeks, from June 22nd to August 17th. Hourly wage is commensurate with experience.
Camp Leader Job Responsibilities:
- Following the established activity schedule, the Camp Leader implements camp programs for children.
- Provides high-quality educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for camp participants.
- Under supervision and training of Farm Staff, ensuring safe interactions between animals and children.
- Supervises campers and ensures their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
- Maintains a schedule for camp participants.
- Facilitates and follows lesson plans for daily activities.
- Organizes and leads various small and large group activities
- Ensures the cleanliness of the site.
- Assists in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.
- Knows and understands all emergency procedures associated with the camp program.
- Records and tracks camper’s dietary restrictions/allergies.
- Mediates any campers’ disputes. Works with Aurora Farm staff and parents to resolve.
- Knows, enforces, and follows all safety guidelines associated with the camp program, including knowing the whereabouts of your charges at all times.

- A minimum of 3 years of combined education and experience in camp, youth programs, recreation, working with children, or in a related field. Students in University level Education programs are especially encouraged to apply.
