All Strung Out? 

A thoroughly relaxing Saturday afternoon workshop featuring alpaca yarn, harp and medicinal teas. Aurora Farm welcomes guest instructor Mary Robinsong on harp to share soothing melodies and give short lessons for everyone who has always wanted to play the harp.  Explore the basics of alpaca fleece with knitting, crochet, weaving and felt-making stations.  If you’ve got some experience bring along a project. If you’re a beginner you’ll be on your way by the end of the afternoon.  Various relaxation teas will be served along with Louise’s famous bread and goat cheese.  Yes, we’ll have a relaxing cup of tea with the alpacas too!

Goat-Milk Soap Workshop

Learn how to make goat milk soap from scratch.  Kits for home soap-making can be purchased so that you can make your own soap for yourself at home.  Or you can purchase the soap you make at material cost.

Natural Beauty Products 

Don’t want to use unknown chemicals in your basic personal care routine?  Find “natural” commercial products too expensive?  Learn how to make your own natural shampoo and conditioner, toothpaste, lip balm, moisturizer, facials, shaving cream and deodorant.  Take home lots of samples and recipes.

Bread-Making from Scratch

Who needs a bread machine?  Learn how to make Louise’s famous bread, cinnamon buns, pretzels and bagels. Samples to take home and impress your family!  Recipe and pep talk to keep on bread-makin’.

Bread-Maker Pro

Now that you know the basics of bread-making, how about trying out some new things?  Like sourdough, sprouted grain bread, gluten-free bread and naan bread. We’ll even mill our own flours and seeds.  You’ll walk away with your own sourdough starter too.

Natural Paint

Here’s a different way to paint the interior of your home, traditional clay paint.  We’ll mix different colours using natural pigments and experiment with some different textures.  Learn how to prime a new wall and finish-coat with a milk-based casein. We’ll use a beer (yes beer!) paint to bring to life a wooden coffee table.

Egg Tempera Paint

And for a natural artist’s paint… Learn the techniques of egg tempera paint, an age-old traditional artistic paint medium used around the world.  We’ll make our own egg tempera paint with Aurora Farm hens’ eggs and natural pigments.  Then we’ll spend the rest of the evening painting!

Your Own Backyard Chickens

Thinking about having a clutch of hens in your backyard so that you can have delicious and nutritious fresh eggs (not to mention food security!)  Join us for an evening of discussions and demonstrations.  You’ll leave with handouts, plans and feeling ready to do it!

Full-moon Medicinal Herbology.  For each of the full moons of May through September, Aurora Farm will host a day of making herbal medicine health products.

 

Three-day Dairy Goat School.  If you are seriously thinking about having your own dairy goats for milk, cheese, yogurt, etc, this three-day workshop will give you everything you need to know to get going!
